This week has sunk up on me. I can't believe that it is Spring Break. I have such fond memories of my spring breaks as a child. We Always did something fun, most of the time it was a trip to Long Beach, CA to visit Grandma Ballard. Dad would usually have to work so Mom would take us down. We would go down to the Nielsen house to play with them and it was always hide and go seek, basketball, football or pickle. Sometimes the Nielsen's would take us with them to see a dollar movie and most of the time we would go to Knott's Berry Farm or Disneyland and bring the Nielsen's along. Some of my cousins would come along too depending on who was there. And of course we would head to Seal Beach.
Now that I'm the Mom...I have nothing planned for spring break (although we just had Mom, Dad, Erin, Lynn, Porter, and Peyton here and we went to the dells which felt like spring break). Luckily Tracy planned a trip to a Museum for tomorrow, so at least we can say we did something fun. I think Tanner will enjoy having the time off from school.
Tanner got home from school on Friday very sad. Tracy explained to me that the teacher had given out parts to the play and Tanner didn't get the part that he wanted. So I asked Tanner what part he got and he is the narrator, which he was very upset about. He is a good reader and I'm sure that's why he got the part. I told him this and he just said, "but I hate reading." Luckily Barry was home and helped the situation. He came in to Tan's room and said, "Wow, Tanner You are the narrator...congratulations, we need to celebrate. Lets go celebrate and get you a treat." This changed Tan's mood and then he later admitted that he was a little scared to have the part and be up in front of the whole school. I told him that we will practice and everything will be fine.
The other day Tanner was playing a new Wii game that we borrowed from the Wheeler's. All of the sudden he yells out, "Thank you Heavenly Father." I looked at him and he told me that he had just said a prayer that he would pass the level and Heavenly Father did. It was cute!
Another story about Tanner. Barry was on call on Friday night and I had put all the kids to bed. Tanner still had his light on so I called up to him to see if he wanted to play a game with me. He ran down the stairs and said he would rather do a puzzle together. I didn't mind that, so we started his Star Wars puzzle and were talking. I asked him why he liked Star Wars so much, he said, "It's so cool they have light sabers that are so much better than swords because they can go through metal and regular swords can only go through wood. They have space ships, but they don't call they space ships they call them Star Ships, and it is all really cool." Then he said that he had powers like the force and he could make people do things that he wanted them to do. I asked him who he uses his powers on and he said his Dad. He said that when he wants something and asks Dad he uses his mind and repeats what it is that he wants and that is what Dad does. He said that he used his powers on me because when I yelled up to him he thought that I was going to say to turn off the lights, so he said in his mind, "don't say it, don't say it," and I didn't, so his powers worked on me too. He said he is like Matilda because she uses her mind to do things.
Kara lately has been a sweetie. It's weird that as a child grows you get along with each other better at some points than others. We are having a good time together. I took her to Child development days at the school. I told her that they were going to check her out to see if she is ready for preschool, and she is. A lady came to do some tests with her and I asked if I needed to go with them, she said if Kara would come by herself it would be best. Kara didn't hesitate and she waved goodbye as she went with the lady. She is growing up so fast, just like she wants to do. She has never wanted to be the little one, and never says I can't. She is a mover and a shaker and will do amazing things as she grows because she is willing to try everything, even the impossible.
Kendra is going to be one next Sunday. Wow, a lot has happened in this year of her life. We are so happy to have such a fun baby in our family. She really likes her brother and sister and wants to be in the same room as them to play and have company...as long as Kara leaves her alone. Kendra loves bath time and will splash around forever. She has become very good at walking and rarely crawls anymore, she waddles from thing to thing or sometimes in circles. She loves our neighbor Dick a lot. She gets so excited to see him. Kendra also likes babies (real and dolls). She is our first child to get extremely jealous when another sibling is sitting on a parents or Dicks lap and will cry and try to push them off, even when she isn't on the lap. She will dance when music is playing and really likes it if I hold her while Kara and I dance together. After family prayer we do a family hug and she loves that and says, "ahhhh" and does "Sure love ya" with all of our hands together, a tradition borrowed from Lisa's family.
Barry and I have started a ebay used shoe business, and frequent Goodwill to find deals. This has been keeping our nights busy and we are having fun learning together. It's nice that Barry likes to go shopping for shoes now with me, he is a fun shopping buddy.
He is going to have to sign up and study for his STEP 2 soon. I'm sad about that because the weather is starting to finally get nice and he will be stuck inside studying.
I am keeping busy lately with some Shutterfly projects (that I bought from Goodwill and have to use by the end of April) I only have nine left. So far I made a key ring and a photo book. I have also been worried about moving because we still need to find a place. I'd like to keep Tan in the same school for next year because we will be changing the year after. I just hate thinking about packing up everything and moving it.
