Weekend Fun

Friday we went out to see a fireworks show. Kendra really liked it and kept pointing to the fireworks and saying, "that, that." Kara was sad because she missed the last five minutes of the show because she had to go to the bathroom and it was over when she made it back outside. We locked Kendra up in her car seat for a few minutes along side her friend Matt. That didn't last long. Saturday we went to a neighborhood 4th of July celebration. We played softball and had a cookout. Then when it got dark we watched more fireworks. Barry kept hitting home run after home run...until he hit a line drive straight at our neighbor Dick's hip.

It Was Time!

I finally got my hair cut (and highlighted) this week!

Tanner saw me with my new do and said, "Mom you have stripes in your hair now."

I said, "I paid a lot of money for those stripes, let's call them highlights!"

Residents Graduation

Last night we got to go to the Residents Graduation. Dinner was great....the program was like any graduation, long. Barry was wishing it was his turn to start residency, but that will come soon.

This is us with Steven and Tracy before the graduation. They brought their kids over so we could just use one babysitter (it's girls camp time and babysitters are very limited). The kids had a blast together.

Similarities

The similarities between these two are scary!
We discovered Kara can lick her elbow just like Auntie Kim.

Rock River Flood

The Rock river is overflowing in Downtown Janesville. The library parking lot is now a lake. We live up on a hill so we haven't seen water by us, but many roads have been closed and some houses near the river have sand bags around them to hopefully keep water out.

A New Cook In The House

Today I was preparing for some friends to come over for lunch and then realized that it was time to pick up Tanner from summer school. Kendra was taking a nap and so was Barry and Kara was watching a movie. I told Kara that I would be back in a few minutes and if she needed anything to wake up her Dad.

This is what happened while I was gone. Kara went down to the basement to wake Barry up.

Barry: Waking up to something waving in his face. "What's burning?"

Kara: "I burned my quesadilla."

Barry: Worried. "What did you use to cook it?"

Kara: "The microwave."

That is the point that I returned home.

Jodie: "What's burning? Kara are you OK?"

Barry: Walking up the stairs with a burnt tortilla, "Kara's quesadilla."

We're not sure how long she cooked the tortilla, but we are so relieved that if it did catch on fire, it was at least contained. It was sure black! Just when I thought I could trust Kara for a few minutes....I guess she will always be Kara.

Pickin' Berries

We decided to go pick strawberries at Skelly's Farm. It was so much fun!

Tanner ate more strawberries than he put in the basket. He loved picking berries and can't wait to do it again. When he saw himself in this picture he couldn't believe that his face was so messy. He was a little embarrassed that he was walking around like that.

I made sure that the kids brought water bottles because it was so hot. Of course they drank most of the water before we got to the farm...so a few minutes after we were in the middle of the field, they had to go. Luckily neither of them mind the great outdoors.

This is the group we were out with Jenn and her boys and Tif. Tiffany had the most beautiful berries. Mine and Jenn's were not quite as red and we had a few that were rotten, but we appreciated the help of the kids. I made freezer jam today with the berries for the first time ever!

Ball Game

Tanner is playing baseball now, and he really thinks this is his sport...maybe even his favorite. Although, he has informed me that he has two favorite sports; baseball (because of the Acor's) and basketball (because of the Belcher's). He doesn't like anyone to feel left out. He is doing very well and loves baseball time with his Dad!

Seen and Heard

So here is my version of Seen and Heard.

Heard-
Kara: "Mom I'm thirsty and my bum is sore."

Heard later in the same day-
Kara: "My bum is sor......where's Dad?"
(Barry got her hooked to Vaseline, and has her believing that it makes anything better, because of this he is her go to guy for anything sore.)

Heard-
Kara: "Tan, we're buddies, right?"
Kara: "Tan, we're buddies, right?"
Tanner: "Yep"
Kara: "Cause we get in trouble"
Tanner: " We're troublesome twins"
Kara: "What kind of trouble should we get into"
Mom: "Not in the store"

Heard-
Mom: "I can't believe how fast you kids are growing up. I'm getting to be an old lady."
Kara: "Oh, I love you so much I don't want you to die. I will miss you so much."
Mom: "Don't worry I'm not too old yet."

Heard-
Kara: "Mom, you know you can't yell in heaven."
Mom: "Why not?"
Kara: "It's against the law there."

Seen-
Kendra being upset when I put the baby gate on the stairs. Then out smarting me by climbing up the couch and through the rails and up the stairs and looking back very proud of herself.

Seen-
Tanner unload the dishwasher without being asked (the first time ever!).

Exciting News!

We're about to have four of something at our house!!! No...it's not another child....we spotted four little tomatoes on our plant. This was exciting to see, and we hope to see lots more soon.

Out With The Old

We said goodbye to our Camry. It was good to us (most of the time), but started to get a little too much personality. With no outside door handle on the driver's side, the trunk stuck shut, the grill duck taped, the window that doesn't stay up, the back fire when it started, the fact that it goes through oil like no other and it just sounded like it was on it's last leg. It made a few trips across the county, but we weren't sure it would make it on another one like the one we will be making this summer. So Long Camry! Hello Civic!

Hair Cut

It was time! Kara's haircut that she gave herself a year ago has finally grown out long enough to try to blend in now. She got a cute little bob with layers to disguise the layers she had given herself. She really likes it, except when she just wakes up in the morning she has some pretty funky bed head, but once that is all smoothed out she likes it.

Crying Chorus

Bedtime tonight was a chorus of crying. Barry and I went outside to get away from the screaming cries of Tanner (because he wanted to read, or watch a movie before bed), Kara because Tanner was being so loud, and believe it or not Kendra slept through it all. Once Kara realized that Barry and I were outside she came out to complain. She said, "Mom, we forgot to have scriptures (as she is crying uncontrollably)." I said, "Kara I'm not going to have scriptures with kids that are being so crazy." Kara cried, "Aw, dang-it, I should have asked Dad!" She went into bed and a few minutes later everyone was asleep.

Pretty Pretty

Today Tanner and Kara wanted to run through the sprinkler. They had to wait for Kendra to wake up so Kara could get her swimsuit. I asked Kara if I could put her hair in a pony tail and she said, "Then people will say, is that Kara....she looks pretty pretty." Kara thought she looked pretty with one big pony tail. She is so cute!

He's Got A Hole in His Head

All year Tanner has been waiting (very impatiently) to loose his first tooth. Most of the kids in his Kindergarten class have lost teeth and he thought it was his turn. He really worked at it so it was loose enough to pull. He was thrilled to have a new hole in his head!
This is a letter that he wrote the Tooth Fairy. He is really into powers that characters have. The tooth fairy didn't respond and Barry said it was because the tooth fairy can't give away her powers. Tanner was happy to put that tooth under his pillow and get a dollar the next morning (I don't think I ever got a dollar for a tooth when I lost them, but that's inflation for you!)

Smith's Dairy Farm

We had a fun day at the Smith Dairy Farm. We were greeted by four large friendly dogs that wouldn't let me out of the car. Surprisingly the kids liked the dogs and didn't mind having them around. Kendra was a little farm girl. She loved everything about it, manure and all.
Kara and Micah loved the farm too.

There was even a fox. It was pretty shy.

This was the milking area where we had to dodge all kinds of things. You can't see it very well but cows are all lined up and are being milked behind us and what you can't see at all is that cows are all lined up in front of us as well. So, we had to dodge both sides. The big spot on Lisa's forehead isn't mud...lets just say she didn't dodge so well in the milking room. Mom and Lisa got plastered in poop.

Beginners Luck

Micah went fishing for the first time (I think) and he was the only one that caught a fish. It must have been his technique of pulling the rod and slapping it into the water. Kara and Micah each named their worms Baby Kate and I even caught Micah kissing his worm.
