Kara is 5

I can't believe another year has gone by. Kara is 5 and so excited about it, I don't think she fell asleep until 10:00 last night and she got up before anyone this morning. I think it is a status symbol at preschool to be five and not four. One of the girls at school today told Kara that she can run just like the five year olds now, and Kara was proud of that fact. We did most of our celebrating yesterday combined with Memorial Day because that's when Barry had time off. He is on call tonight, but he had the day off so we were able to get pizza before he left and of course she had to open her presents. She loved the make-up kit she got from Tanner. Kara is funny and so practical...when I asked her what she wanted for her birthday she wanted a lamp, so that's what she got a nice lamp for her bedroom.
Our neighbors took Kara out for a birthday treat this afternoon which she loved! They gave her a bike horn for her "new bike" (it's really Tanner's old hand me down but she loves it so as long as she doesn't complain it's all good). They told her it's a present that she can use when she moves.

Dad is Home!

This month Barry has been on his ER rotation and it has been rough. He hasn't had a full day home in the past two weeks. Saturday he had off and we took advantage of the sunshine (even though it was cold and windy). The lawn got mowed (finally), the house cleaned, and we went for a bike ride on a bike trail close by. It was a lot of fun and it was something we all equally enjoyed, which is a definite bonus, it's difficult to find activities that we all want to do.

You would think that Kara would be my speedy one, but she loved looking around at the scenery and seeing the birds. She just slowly rode down the trail. Tanner weaved his way up the trail in between the trail divider marks. Kendra was happy to be the the trailer along for the ride.

During our ride we found some batting cages that looked fun to try out. It's funny how we've lived here for two years and still find new treasures in Janesville. Our ride lasted about an hour once we got back home. We went out to a few rummage sales because Barry is now looking to buy a canoe. We came home empty handed, maybe next time!

We went to Dick and Nancy's house for a delicious lunch and then Kendra and Barry napped while Tan, Kara and I went to the library.
Later Barry and I got to go out on a date and we decided we needed to hit the batting cages. It was fun to try to hit, I wasn't any good at hitting the baseballs, even on slow pitch, but I could hit the softballs. Barry of course could hit anything.

It was a great day full of fun and it was so nice to have Barry home for a day, because of course he is on call today. I guess that the life of an intern.

Celebrate!

We wanted to celebrate Tanner's performance by going out to dinner, but by the time Barry got home Kara and Kendra were ready for bed. We told Tanner that he could go out for a dessert from somewhere and then we could watch a movie of his choice. The girls went to bed and I took Tanner to Perkins for a peanut butter pie (his choice of dessert). We got in the car to come home from Perkins and Tanner said, "What are you and Dad going to get for your dessert?" I informed him that we would all be sharing the pie. He was disappointed that it wasn't his own, but willingly shared.

Barry just started he ER rotation and is working nights this week and hasn't been home for dinner, so the kids and I decided to have Dick and Nancy over for a Cinco De Mayo dinner. Nancy brought some amazing costumes for the celebration (that was the extent of the celebration besides the chimichungas we ate for dinner). Aren't they cute!Dick used to wear all of those colorful ties back in the 70's.

Today was the free day at Rotary Gardens, they now charge $5 a person except for the first Wednesday of every month. We had to take advantage of the day even though the weather man said it was going to rain. It turned out to be really nice and we only felt a few sprinkles.

Kendra loved the flowers and had to smell them all.

Kara, Kamdyn and Caden got soaked in the water fountain! They had a great time.
